Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

This week I had the opportunity to teach K - 2 while some of our teachers were being trained in Initial Lit. This approach to teaching English supports the new K-2 NSW English curriculum which is due to be implemented in 2023. We will be well placed to implement this curriculum next year.

In K-2 we were learning about emotions. See if you can guess emotions from the pictures below. We were learning about: happy, sad, bored, tired, anxious, angry, confused, annoyed etc. It was great to connect with the K - 2 students; they have a thirst for learning and natural curiosity and it was fun to engage with them.

Earlier this week I sent a link to parents to complete a ‘Tell them from me survey’. The link is below again. This survey provides the school with ideas to help us improve. I encourage each family to complete this survey to help us on our school improvement journey.

Tell them from me

Please save the following dates as we are organising some events for parents to visit and be part of our community.

Tuesday 13th September - Trivia Night 5 - 7pm

Tuesday 20th September - Creative Arts Showcase Assembly 2pm

We hope you can make these events; more information will come about both events closer to the date.

Regards,

Nathan Trezise,

Principal

We are honoured to be on the ancestral lands of the Gumbaynggirr people. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional custodians of the continent, whose cultures are among the oldest living cultures in human history. We pay respect to the Elders of the community and extend our recognition to their descendants who are present.

Sports Colour Mufti Day

What a sea of colour we were greeted with today when we arrived at school. It was great to see all the students in their favourite sport team colours, even if some had the QLD maroon on!! The students were keen to show who they barrack and play for as they shared their Milo, toast and fruit. We made $50 from our gold coin donations, which will go towards the purchase of material to make blankets to be donated to those in need of some warmth.

Thank you for your support!

Louise Sprowles

Leader of Catechesis Evangelisation and Spirituality (LOSEAC)

2022 Book Week & Book Fair events

2022 Book Week & Book Fair is coming up in Week 6, from 22-26 August. Thank you to Ashlee Turner, who has volunteered to be our Book Fair coordinator again this year. This year's theme is "Paws for Books". There will be a display of books available for purchase set up in the library during this week. Each Book Fair is designed to give kids access to more books they want to read, from relevant new-releases to classic award-winners. Every purchase made will benefit our school, as we receive a percentage of all sales made as free books for our library.

The students will be visiting Dorrigo Library on Wednesday 24th August to participate in some sessions with the library staff.

On Thursday 25th August, we will be holding our Book Character Dress-up Parade at 11:30am - this is great fun, with all students and staff dressing up for the day as their favourite character from a book. Time to start thinking about your costumes!

2022 Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier's Reading Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools. You must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. The Challenge closes for students on Friday August 19, 2022.

Congratulations to the following students, who have completed this year's Premier's Reading Challenge: Mia G, Harry C, Willa M, Freya W, Reid G, Harry W

The competition closes soon. Please create your artwork on A4 Portrait paper, and contact Sally Duckett at dorrigoshowpresident@gmail.com or phone 02 6657 5241 when your artwork is ready for collection.
